Notes on Handling Confidential Data
The creation of scenarios using the CIB method may in some use cases require you to formulate assessments and considerations that you consider to be confidential. The following explanations are intended to help you decide whether and, if so, how you should use the ScenarioWizard web application for these tasks. Nevertheless, the responsibility for your decision lies with you.
Your account and your data are password-protected and protected from access by third parties using special IT procedures. However, illegal attacks on IT systems have become increasingly aggressive and powerful in recent years and a high level of protection cannot be achieved with these procedures. An important protective measure that you can take yourself to contribute to the security of your stored data is to choose a sufficiently secure password and to keep this password safe.
In principle, the website operator has the technical possibility to review your account, but will respect the privacy of your data and will only make use of this possibility if misuse or the security or operability of the website makes this necessary at the discretion of the website operator. Such cases will be documented and users are entitled to information on request as to whether and why such access to their account was necessary. Your data is in no way subject to exploitation by the website operator, neither for scientific nor for commercial purposes.
Depending on the confidentiality level of your data, the following procedures are recommended:
Low level of confidentiality:
Use the ScenarioWizard web application without additional precautions.
|
Medium level of confidentiality:
You can improve the security of your data by preventing your data from being stored in the web application for a longer period of time. To do this, you can download your data to your personal device at the end of each work session using the download functions of the web application and then delete it from the website using the "Clear data" function. Do not forget to also delete the "Work space" data area in which the temporary work files are located. If you want to resume working on your data later, you can upload it to the website again at the start of a work session using the upload functions of the web application.

High level of confidentiality:
Possibly the best solution for working with highly confidential data is to use the ScenarioWizard PC version (see www.cross-impact.org) instead of the web application. However, if you prefer to work with the web application, there is a way to strongly protect your content, but at the expense of application convenience: Your content will be effectively concealed if you name the descriptors in your matrix only with A, B, C,... and the trend variants with A1, A2, A3,... and document the meaning of these abbreviations only on your personal device. In this case, you should also dispense with entering definition and justification text for the descriptors and influence relationships in the matrix. The results are then only output by the software in coded form and can only be interpreted by you.
